The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
