Britain's Katie Boulter admits she feels she has to "pick between my body and my world standing" as the scramble persists for a spot in January's Australian Open main event.

The female participant roster for the opening Grand Slam of the 2026 season will be based on the international positions of 8 December, which could create a challenging situation for competitors near the cut.
Previous British top-ranked player Boulter tore an groin injury in her last tournament of the year in international locations last period, and is now evaluating whether to play in the WTA 125 development competition in Angers, the European nation, in the initial week of December.
Boulter's recent injury, and the situation she would need to secure at least three matches in the French tournament to improve her standing, means she may likely end up not participating.
In comparison, male players are not facing the identical situation, as for the premier occasion the men's Australian Open participant roster will be drawn up from current week's rankings, which is the ATP's standard year-end standing calculation.
The adjustment is intended to discouraging players from chasing ranking points during what is essentially the off-season.
This period has been a challenging one for Boulter.
She achieved merely 14 Tour-level primary competition contests and recently split with coach Biljana Veselinovic after a three-year working relationship in which she secured several WTA championships.

The quest for a new coach is currently ongoing, looking for a professional who has elite background as Boulter continues to think she can be a top-20 player.
"Progressing with a replacement instructor, a key aspect I'm completely sure on is that they are going to be an individual who has a lot of knowledge in how to make it to the highest echelon of this profession," she explained.
"I've been placed as high as twenty-three and I know I can return to that level. I am not convinced my standard has disappeared, I think the reliability needs to improve.
"My aim is not merely to be placed 50, 40, 30, twenty - we've accomplished that. The objective is to be inside the elite group."
