Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

McLaren drivers in action — Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.

Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.

Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the main straight.

Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
