England's Bowling Consultant Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Availability

England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.

The former Kiwi seamer is only likely to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, 36, took up a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.

Commenting as the English team for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

England pace icon Stuart Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on November 21.

"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [the English] side that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

However, prior to England travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
