Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
